SOUTH AFRICA > SABI SANDS
Sabi Sand Game Reserve is one of Africa’s most exclusive safari destinations – a private reserve where you can follow leopards off-road, enjoy sundowners in the bush, and return to gourmet dinners under a sky full of stars.
Our Sabi Sands safari packages range from classic lodge stays to fully tailored family adventures, allowing you to experience this premier private reserve at your own pace. Enjoy the exclusivity of a private wilderness where expert guides and trackers bring you closer to Africa’s iconic wildlife.
Why Visit Sabi Sands for a Safari?
Unrivalled Big Cat Viewing: Sabi Sand is world‑famous for its leopard sightings. Because vehicles can go off-road (where conditions allow) and guides know individual animals, sightings are often close and unhurried. Lion, cheetah and wild dog are also seen regularly.
Part of Greater Kruger – No Fences: Sabi Sand shares an unfenced boundary with Kruger National Park, so animals move freely between the two, creating a huge, continuous wilderness with excellent game density.
Exclusive, Low Vehicle Numbers: As a private reserve, the number of vehicles at each sighting is strictly limited. This means quieter, more intimate wildlife encounters compared with many public parks.
Luxury Safari Experience: Sabi Sand is known for its top-end lodges, superb guiding, fine dining, and personalised service. It’s ideal for honeymoons, special occasions, or anyone wanting a “once-in-a-lifetime” safari.
Sabi Sands Nature & Wildlife Highlights
- The Big Five: Lion, leopard, elephant, rhino, and buffalo are all commonly seen.
- Close-up encounters: With skilled trackers and guides, you’ll often follow animals on the move – lions on a hunt, leopards in trees, or elephants at waterholes.
- Rich birdlife: Hundreds of bird species, from raptors to colourful bee-eaters and kingfishers.
- Varied landscapes: Classic Lowveld bush, open clearings, riverine forest and seasonal waterholes offer great photographic backdrops.
What a Typical Sabi Sands Safari Looks Like
Stays in Sabi Sand are usually all-inclusive and follow a relaxed, but structured safari rhythm:
Early Morning Game Drive
Wake before sunrise for coffee and a light snack, then head out in an open 4×4 vehicle with a guide and tracker. This is prime time to see predators active and enjoy soft morning light for photography.
Breakfast & Relaxation
Return to the lodge for a hearty breakfast. Late morning is free time – relax by the pool, enjoy a spa treatment, read on your private deck, or watch animals coming to nearby waterholes.
Lunch & Optional Bush Walk
After lunch, some lodges offer short guided bush walks to learn about tracks, plants, and smaller creatures (weather and safety permitting).
Afternoon & Sunset Game Drive
Head out again in the late afternoon. You’ll usually stop for sundowners – drinks and snacks as the sun sets – then continue with a spotlight drive after dark to look for nocturnal animals.
Dinner Under the Stars
Evenings often end with a three-course dinner in the dining area or traditional boma, sometimes with a fire and lanterns.
