About the Game Lodge
Shishangeni Main Lodge is an upscale safari lodge set on a 15,000-hectare private concession within Kruger National Park, in South Africa. Located away from the busier public roads, the lodge offers spacious luxury chalets, guided game drives, and excellent wildlife viewing in a quieter, more exclusive part of the park.
Why We Love It
Situated on a private concession inside Kruger National Park
Game drives on private roads, away from public routes
Overlooks waterholes and open bush, attracting frequent wildlife sightings
Atmospheric bush braais under the stars
Suits couples, friends, and families, with a romantic safari feel
Accommodation
Stand‑alone thatched chalets connected to the main area by raised wooden walkways, creating a strong “in-the-bush” feel while maintaining privacy and comfort
Rooms are spacious and well equipped, many with both an indoor bathtub and outdoor shower
All chalets include air-conditioning, mosquito nets, fireplace, minibar, and a furnished private patio, designed for guests to unwind between game drives
Activities
Two guided game drives per day in open safari vehicles (early morning and late afternoon), included in the stay
Excellent Big 5 and general game viewing, with many guests noting sightings just metres from their chalets
Additional facilities include a swimming pool with loungers, bar and poolside bar, spa treatments and massages, a library, and a games room
Being based on a private concession means guests enjoy a more secluded safari experience, with the flexibility to explore areas inaccessible to day visitors. Wildlife often moves freely around the lodge, and sightings of elephants, hippos, antelope, and occasionally predators are common from the main areas.
Shishangeni strikes a rare balance between romantic safari lodge and relaxed, family-friendly retreat, making it well suited to honeymooners as well as small groups and families seeking a comfortable Kruger stay.
