His main areas of expertise are sales and product, with a particular focus on creating memorable travel experiences while maintaining a high level of professionalism, attention to detail and customer service.

What Gareth enjoys most about working in the safari and travel industry is the opportunity to create memorable experiences for people. He loves sharing his passion for wildlife, nature and different cultures while helping guests discover new places and experiences.

For Gareth, one of the most rewarding parts of the job is seeing the excitement and appreciation on someone’s face when they experience something special for the first time. He also enjoys that every day is different, with constant opportunities to learn, meet new people and grow within the industry.

Gareth has travelled extensively across Southern Africa, with each destination offering something unique.

The experiences that have stood out most are those that allowed him to connect with the people, culture and natural environment — whether through exploring local communities, experiencing different landscapes and wildlife, or simply sharing everyday moments with people from different backgrounds.

For Gareth, the most memorable experiences are not always the obvious tourist highlights. Conversations with locals, discovering local food and traditions, and seeing how different communities live and celebrate their culture have given him a much deeper appreciation for the diversity and richness of Africa.

Botswana

Botswana is by far my favourite safari destination.

What stands out most is the combination of untouched wilderness, diverse wildlife and the feeling of being completely immersed in nature.

The Okavango Delta is particularly special, with its waterways, incredible landscapes and unforgettable wildlife encounters. I also love that Botswana offers a more intimate and authentic safari experience, where travellers can truly appreciate the peace and beauty of the African bush.

The Great Migration in Tanzania and Kenya

I would love to witness millions of wildebeest and zebra moving across the landscape and experience a Mara River crossing firsthand.

Camp Xakanaxa

The location is a major highlight, with excellent opportunities to see elephants, buffalo, lions, leopards, wild dogs and a remarkable variety of birdlife.

I especially enjoy its warm, relaxed atmosphere and the sense of being fully immersed in nature. For me, it is the perfect balance of adventure, tranquillity and authentic African safari charm.

For First-Time Safari Travellers

“Choose your destination and safari experience carefully rather than trying to see everything in one trip. Africa is incredibly diverse, and it is worth finding the experience that best suits you. Slow down, choose a smaller camp with good guides, and leave room for the unexpected. Some of the most memorable safari moments are often the simplest ones, from watching elephants at a waterhole to listening to the bush come alive in the morning.

Be patient, keep an open mind and enjoy every sighting, big or small. The beauty of an African safari is that no two days are ever the same.”

For Experienced Safari Travellers

“Look beyond simply adding more destinations to your list. Spend more time in one area, get to know its landscapes and wildlife patterns, and choose camps where the quality of guiding is exceptional. Some of the most memorable experiences come from slowing down and letting your guide reveal the smaller details — tracks, calls, behaviour and interactions you might otherwise miss. Try experiences like walking safaris, boating, mokoro excursions and night drives for a different perspective.

Above all, don’t become too focused on ticking off sightings — even after many safaris, there is always something new to learn, and the magic is often in the unexpected moments and simply being present in the wilderness.”
