ZIMBABWE > VICTORIA FALLS
Victoria Falls is a UNESCO World Heritage site and a natural wonder that defines the rhythm of the Zambezi, forming a thundering 1.7km curtain of water between Zimbabwe and Zambia.
Our Victoria Falls safari packages find the perfect pace, balancing the high energy of the falls and river activities with the quiet wilderness of the nearby Zambezi National Park.
What Makes Victoria Falls Special?
A Spectacle of Scale
Spanning twice the width of Niagara, the falls are a geological masterpiece. Depending on the time of year, you’ll see either a thundering wall of white water that sends spray 500 metres into the air or a dramatic, jagged rock face that reveals the deep basalt gorges below.
The Adventure Epicentre
There is nowhere else on the continent where you can bungee jump off a historic bridge, raft Grade 5 rapids, and sit in a natural “Devil’s Pool” right on the edge of a 100-metre drop, all in the same day.
Wildlife Without Borders
Because the town is tucked within a national park, the wildlife doesn’t stay behind a fence. It is one of the few places where you might spot a family of baboons in the town centre or a herd of buffalo crossing the road as you head to dinner. Game drives and birdwatching are also available throughout the area.
Victoria Falls Safari Highlights
- Access to the UNESCO World Heritage site with 16 different viewpoints through the rainforest.
- The “Flight of Angels” helicopter tour, offering the only way to see the full 1.7km width of the falls during high water.
- Sunset cruises that pair wildlife viewing (hippos and crocs) with the best “golden hour” views in Africa.
- From white water rafting in the Batoka Gorge to the historic 1905 Victoria Falls Bridge.
- Traditional dining and drumming at The Boma, featuring local Zimbabwean cuisine and “chitenge” sarongs.
Adrenaline & Extreme Sports:
- Bungee & Gorge Swings: Plunge toward the Zambezi from the iconic bridge or swing across the massive arc of the gorge.
- White Water Rafting: Tackle the famous Grade 4 and 5 rapids of the Batoka Gorge.
- Zip-lining: High-wire slides across the gorge on the Zimbabwe side.
Water & Scenic Experiences:
- Devil’s Pool (Zambia side): A seasonal swim to the very edge of the falls during low water, offering an unparalleled adrenaline rush.
- Sunset Cruises: A relaxed way to see the river’s resident wildlife with drinks and snacks in hand.
- Rainforest Walks: A guided walking tour through the mist-soaked trails of Victoria Falls National Park.
Unique Perspectives:
- Helicopter Flights: Essential during high water (Feb–May) when the spray can obscure ground-level views.
- Bamba Tram: A restored vintage tram ride through the park to the bridge—perfect for a mix of history and wildlife spotting.
March–May (Peak Flood):
The river is at its most powerful. Expect to be soaked on the trails as you witness the “Smoke That Thunders” in full force, often accompanied by brilliant rainbows and moonbows.
June–August (Winter):
Water levels drop slightly, clearing the mist to reveal the best photographic views of the falls’ structure. The weather is mild—perfect for combining your trip with a Chobe safari.
September–December (Low Water):
While the Zambian side can dry up, the lower water levels make this the prime season for white-water rafting and accessing the famous Devil’s Pool.
Getting There
You can fly directly into Victoria Falls International Airport (VFA) in Zimbabwe or Livingstone (LVI) in Zambia. It’s a 20-minute drive from the airport to most lodges, and since it borders Botswana, it’s a simple two-hour road transfer for those wanting a Chobe and Victoria Falls safari combo.
Victoria Falls offers a wide variety of accommodation, from iconic historic hotels and boutique guest lodges in town to secluded safari camps along the banks of the Zambezi.
You can choose a central location to be within walking distance of the viewpoints or opt for a riverfront retreat for a more peaceful, nature-focused stay.
Family Safaris in Victoria Falls
Victoria Falls is a fantastic introduction for families. The infrastructure is excellent, the activities are varied, and the lodges are very used to younger travellers.
Our Victoria Falls family packages include:
- Interconnected Family Suites: Lodges like Bayete offer a relaxed, home-away-from-home feel.
- Age-Appropriate Adventure: While the bungee might be for the teens, the Bamba Tram and Boma Drum Show are massive hits with younger kids.
- Safety First: We select lodges with secure perimeters and guide you on the best viewpoints to visit with children to avoid the heaviest spray and slippery rocks.
